If you asked yourself “WTF just happened?” after The Recruit’s Season 1 cliff-hanger ending, you’re not alone.

🤐 SPOILER ALERT 🤐

Like Owen (Noah Centineo), we too are wondering whether Russian asset Max (Laura Haddock) is still alive after being shot at close range by her own daughter Karolina (Maddie Hasson) in the dying minutes of the Season 1 finale. The plot twist caught us all off guard, but here’s the good news: The Recruit will continue its mission with a second season — and we’ll finally learn Max’s fate.

“I know I speak for our entire cast and executive team at eOne and Netflix when I say that we’re thrilled to be returning to The Recruit for a second season,” Centineo tells Tudum. “I’m looking forward to seeing what [showrunner] Alexi Hawley has in store for us all.”

In Season 1, rookie CIA lawyer Owen finds his first week on the job turned upside down when he discovers a threatening letter from Max — a former asset who plans to expose the agency’s corruption and secrets unless they exonerate her for a serious crime. As if onboarding at a new job isn’t already stressful enough, Owen quickly becomes entangled in a dangerous web of power politics, as he travels the world hoping to complete his chaotic assignment.

But if you thought the first outing was a wild ride, get ready because Hawley has big plans to turn Season 2 up a few notches. “I’m thrilled to dive back into the fun, funny, action-packed world of The Recruit,” he tells Tudum. “Seeing how invested our audience became in the show’s adventurous take on the spy world has been incredibly rewarding, and I can’t wait to turn it all up to 11 in Season 2.”

Centineo will reprise his role as Owen, as well as returning to the executive producer chair alongside Hawley as showrunner. More details about The Recruit Season 2 are still to come, but in the meantime, prepare for the next mission with our CIA aptitude test and compare your results with Centineo himself.
