In the first two seasons of the live-action ONE PIECE, the Straw Hats faced the menacing Arlong Pirates, went toe-to-toe with deadly Baroque Works assassins, and battled fearsome metal monsters. Now their extraordinary adventures are being reimagined in brick form.

Debuting this September, the LEGO® ONE PIECE animated special is a two-part retelling of the unforgettable events from Seasons 1 and 2 of the beloved pirate saga. Follow along as Usopp, the Straw Hats’ most reliably unreliable narrator, regales the newest and cutest recruit, the reindeer-boy hybrid Tony Tony Chopper, with the group’s epic exploits across the East Blue and into the legendary Grand Line.

How do LEGO® and ONE PIECE fit together?

Showrunner, writer, and executive producer Tom Hyndman was drawn to the idea of Usopp, a boisterous storyteller, narrating the tale. This way, viewers can experience the events of the first two seasons of the live-action ONE PIECE through his unique point of view.

“We wanted to make something that would ease new viewers into the massive world of ONE PIECE while also giving longtime fans a new, fun perspective to see the iconic stories of the first two seasons,” says Hyndman.

So, who’s in the voice cast?

Rejoice, nakama! The entire Straw Hat crew of the live-action ONE PIECE will lend their voices for both episodes — Iñaki Godoy as Luffy, Emily Rudd as Nami, Mackenyu as Zoro, Jacob Romero as Usopp, Taz Skylar as Sanji, and Mikaela Hooever as Tony Tony Chopper.

“It was incredible to have them on board,” Hyndman tells Tudum. “It allowed us to really go wild during the records because we didn’t have to take extra time to have them find the character — they are the character. This freedom led to some extremely fun and funny improvised moments that really added to the episodes.”

The gang was over the moon about being made into LEGO® characters, Hyndman says. “There was a lot of giddy giggling during every [recording session].”

What’s the release date for the LEGO® ONE PIECE animated special?

Log the date: The two-part, multi-brick special arrives Sept. 29, only on Netflix.

The project is produced in partnership with the LEGO® Group, Japanese publisher Shueisha, and the Vancouver-based animation studio Atomic Cartoons (Marvel’s Spidey and His Amazing Friends).

Hyndman serves as showrunner, writer, and executive producer. Chelsea Ker directed both episodes.

ONE PIECE creator Eiichiro Oda also executive produces alongside Jill Wilfert, Keith Malone, and Lars Danielsen for LEGO® and Marty Adelstein and Becky Clements for Tomorrow Studios.
