Running Point Season 2: Get a Courtside First Look

The LA Waves return to the court with Season 2 of Running Point. Reunite with Isla Gordon (Kate Hudson), reformed party girl turned LA Waves president, and her daffy brothers, Cam (Justin Theroux), Ness (Scott MacArthur), Sandy (Drew Tarver), and Jackie (Fabrizio Guido), in the first photos of the new season, which comes to Netflix on April 23.

When we last saw the LA Waves, they were nursing Game 7 heartbreak. Until that point, the team had been enjoying their best run in years — a welcome surprise considering their mid-season leadership change-up, with Isla replacing her eldest brother, Cam, as team president after he crashed his Porsche while smoking crack. (A typical administrative hurdle.)

While the LA Waves were performing at an all-time high, Isla’s love life grew messier and more uncertain than ever. Isla’s fiancé, Lev (Max Greenfield), called off their long-time engagement, and Isla and head coach Jay Brown’s (Jay Ellis) push-and-pull dynamic came to a boil: As they commiserated over the LA Waves’ tough loss, the two shared a steamy kiss. But Jay was headed to coach in Boston to be closer to his family, and Isla’s breakup had happened a mere episode before.

To make matters even more complicated, in the final seconds of Season 1, Cam made a surprise return after bribing his way out of rehab. Isla’s power suits may make it seem like she has it all together, but Season 2 picks up on an all-time high in terms of havoc.

Meanwhile, the team, including players Marcus Winfield (Toby Sandeman) and Travis Bugg (Chet Hanks), can be relied upon to deliver their own on- and off-court chaos. And a few Season 2 newcomers are sure to deliver mayhem. With the head coach spot wide open, a heartbreaking late-season loss in the recent rearview, and Isla’s most unstable brother back in the mix, the new season of Running Point promises to be another hilarious, compulsively watchable chapter.

Fans fell in love with the dysfunctional family at the heart of Season 1, and relished seeing Hudson — who just earned an Oscar nomination — lean into her comedic side. “I’ve been eager to dive into something comedic with a team I admire, and this role offered a fresh challenge and was hilarious and engaging right from the start,” she told Tudum when Season 1 first aired. “The chance to work with people I respect and to bring a unique female perspective to a male-driven world was incredibly appealing.”

Season 1 took inspiration from Lakers owner and president Jeanie Buss’s real-life story. Buss executive produces with Linda Rambis, Hudson, and Howard Klein (The Office). TV maestro Mindy Kaling (Never Have I Ever), Ike Barinholtz (The Studio, The Mindy Project), and David Stassen (The Mindy Project) also return to write and executive-produce Season 2. Stassen also showruns, and Jordan Rambis produces.
