The TikTok makeup girlies have spoken: 2025 is the year we collectively understand color theory. You’ve probably heard of the classic color seasons: fall, winter, spring, and summer. But did you know that within those seasons, there are entirely different palettes suited for different undertones? There’s a million different ways to home in on the color palette — or season — that best suits you. Perhaps you’ll play with a TikTok filter, or devotedly sort through influencers to find your shade twin. But in case you want an expert opinion, here are five series featuring makeup artists who will help you nail your perfect makeup look.

Queer Eye

Queer Eye, the feel-good makeover show that already has nine seasons and several international iterations under its belt, became a smash hit for a good reason. Instead of  attempting to change people to conform to a certain beauty standard, the Fab Five focus on revealing the inner beauty of each of their hero clients. From clothes and confidence, to hair, makeup, and home renovation, the Fab Five will bring out the best in anyone.

Black Beauty Effect

This docuseries examines the historical and cultural changes in the beauty industry through the lens of Black women and makeup artists who have defined Blackness over decades. Has the beauty industry actually embraced a more inclusive outlook? Or are melanated folks still left out of crucial conversations about their own identity, expression, and respectability?

Face Off

Face Off is a reality competition show with a wild side. While traditional MUAs are focused on beauty, the artists competing on Face Off are prosthetic experts who specialize in creating movie magic. From sci-fi aliens to eldritch horrors, Face Off will make you see makeup in a whole new perspective. The series is judged by Emmy-award winning MUAs from Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Avatar, and Underworld: Rise of the Lycans.
