Heist movies are all about wanting more: more action, more swindling, more fast cars, more stylish getaways and great outfits, more buddy banter. It’s the itch you can’t scratch, the pursuit of the payoff so big it daunts and dazzles, tempting those who seek it to the wrong side of the law.
The harder the job, the more satisfying the getaway. Why break into a regular vault when you can do it in a zombie-ridden Las Vegas casino? Why steal one of Cleopatra’s golden eggs when you can steal three? Why settle for anything less than robbing the crown jewels from the world’s most prestigious museum? And why watch one movie when you can watch 14?
Pop the Champagne, break out your best fake mustache, and check out this curated watchlist of heist movies and shows.

Heists and zombies. The government is eradicating a zombie-ridden Las Vegas with a nuclear strike. Hours before the entire city is under a mushroom cloud, mercenary Scott Ward (Dave Bautista) is approached with a proposition: steal $200 million from an abandoned casino vault. Scott quickly assembles a crew — played by Ana de la Reguera, Omari Hardwick, Tig Notaro, and more. The team must snag the loot before they run into zombies or run out of time. Go for a double feature with the prequel Army of Thieves.

Who would ever suspect a group of ordinary women of robbing a bank? This French dramedy follows five ladies who, in an attempt to get out of a tricky situation, join forces to commit the theft — while disguised as men. One shot of adrenaline and 36,280 euros later, the amateur criminals soon become the top target for politicians, police, and gangsters. The eight-episode series is co-created by Olivier Rosemberg and Carine Prévôt, both of whom were writers for Family Business.

How far would you go to avoid being the new kid in school? This thriller tries to answer that question as four teens — played by Sasha Pieterse, Alexis G. Zall, Alex Saxon, and Jay Walker — join forces in an attempt to save their prestigious Philadelphia prep school from financial ruin after a massive embezzlement scandal. Their simple plan: create fake valuable coins and hack into the United States Mint. The movie is based on Elisa Ludwig’s young adult novel of the same name.

If there were a hall of fame of thieves, it would certainly include Scott Scurlock, one of the most successful bank robbers in the United States. His creative disguises, complete with facial prosthetics and makeup, helped him rob 19 banks in the Seattle area between 1992 and 1996. In this documentary, detectives, journalists, friends of Scurlock, and even some of his accomplices lay out how the “Hollywood Bandit” stole nearly $2.3 million and was eventually captured.

Eric Garcia’s anthology series throws the rule book out the window. Each viewer will experience their own version of this ambitious heist, which tracks a crew of thieves working to thwart the world’s most powerful security and unlock an airtight vault for a massive payday. Unfolding over eight episodes named after various colors, the show won’t progress in sequential order; you might start with “Yellow,” while your mom is served up “Green,” creating a unique tailored puzzle. Connect the dots, and voilà! You’re in.

Anyone interested in stealing $500 million in gold? Hart stars in this action flick as Cyrus Whitaker, the leader of a band of expert criminals recruited to prevent a terrorist attack by doing what they do best — robbing the rich. The only twist: the heist must take place on a passenger plane at 40,000 feet. Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Vincent D’Onofrio, Billy Magnussen, and Úrsula Corberó are also in the film from director F. Gary Gray.

Burglary just got a lot more gentlemanly. Omar Sy plays Assane Diop, the son of Senegalese immigrants. Inspired by French fictional literary icon Arsène Lupin, Diop sets out to get revenge on the family who framed his father for the theft of a priceless necklace more than two decades earlier. Watch if you enjoy charismatic French people in snug tuxedos, a healthy dose of socioeconomic commentary, or a picturesque trip through some of Paris’s most gorgeous landmarks.

In this deliciously fast-paced international sensation, an enigmatic figure known only as “Professor” recruits a highly skilled group of people to carry out a pair of intricate bank robberies. A snappy blend of action and emotional drama (not to mention the built-in Halloween costume factor, courtesy of those red jumpsuits) turned Money Heist into a fan favorite. Keep the heists going with the spin-offs Money Heist: Korea and Berlin, the latter of which focuses on a jewel thief played by Pedro Alonso.

It’s time to choose a side. This high-stakes crime series tells the story of an expert criminal and a brilliant police detective — adversaries on different sides of the law, but also reflections of each other: two men trying to provide for their families the only way they know how. The series is a subversion of the heist genre, amped by thrilling life-or-death stakes, family dynamics, and explosive action. Matthew Law and Y’lan Noel lead the drama from Power franchise creator Courtney A. Kemp.

Heists with humor! Adam Devine plays Owen, a bank manager about to marry Parker (Nina Dobrev). He finally meets her elusive parents — played by Pierce Brosnan and Ellen Barkin — and after a drunken night with them, his bank is robbed by a seemingly familiar couple. The truth about who Parker’s parents really are starts to unfurl, and Owen is coerced into helping them pull off more heists in order to ensure the safety of the love of his life.

Ryan Reynolds is Nolan Booth, the world’s most wanted art thief; Dwayne Johnson is John Hartley, the FBI agent sent to catch him. But when they both find themselves in a cat-and-mouse game with an elusive mastermind known as The Bishop (Gal Gadot), the two must work together to bring her down. And if Booth should just happen to steal Cleopatra’s three golden eggs along the way? Well, that’s just business.

Matt Damon and Ben Affleck play Lieutenant Dane Dumars and Detective Sergeant J.D. Byrne, the leaders of Miami’s Tactical Narcotics Team. They happen upon $24 million stashed away in a safe house and are required by law to stay on location and count every last dollar. As outside forces begin to learn about the size of the seizure, the team must survive the night — and each other. Kyle Chandler, Steven Yeun, and Teyana Taylor are among the cast of the high-stakes crime thriller.

On March 18, 1990, two men entered Boston’s Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum posing as police officers. Over the next 81 minutes, they made off with hundreds of millions of dollars in priceless art, including works by Degas, Vermeer, Manet, and Rembrandt. No one has ever been charged, and the art has never been recovered. So, what happened? This four-part docuseries tries to unpack the mystery with interviews, archival footage, and recreations outlining the events and prime suspects involved.

Oscar Isaac, Charlie Hunnam, Garrett Hedlund, Pedro Pascal, and Ben Affleck star in this action thriller as a band of US Army Delta Force veterans. Disillusioned by the country’s callous indifference toward their service, they get together for one last mission: stealing $75 million from a powerful crime lord in South America. This time, though, they’re in it for themselves. What should be a relatively straightforward job is complicated by an unforeseen turn that has the men questioning themselves — and each other.
