🤐 SPOILER ALERT 🤐
You know what they say: you’re only as good as your team. And in Extraction 2, Tyler Rake’s team just got a little bit bigger. In the midst of recuperating from his last grueling mission, Chris Hemsworth’s brooding bruiser finds his cabin invaded by a mysterious, well-dressed gentleman with a familiar cockney accent. And he’s already helped himself to some tea. When you’re played by the great Idris Elba (The Wire, Luther), you can get away with anything.

“We’re really good friends and have been for years,” Hemsworth tells Tudum. “We were at a New Year’s Eve party together and over a few beers started throwing around ideas, and then I was pitching him this character. It really wasn't even in the script yet.” Soon enough, Elba’s character, credited as Alcott, had joined the crew, and offered Tyler Rake a brand-new, irresistible mission.
The former Thor co-stars may be friends off the set, but in the film there’s a bit more tension between them. “Alcott’s dressed in a nice three-quarter peacoat, he has an educated demeanor, and an air about him that suggests he’s a man of class,” director Sam Hargrave told Netflix. “He's a dangerous operator in his own right, but he is a little more suave than Rake. He's a little James Bond-esque and pitting the two against each other created an interesting friction.”
Just like James Bond, Alcott isn’t the boss — there’s another figure pulling the strings from behind the scenes, “a gnarly motherfucker,” as Alcott describes him in the film’s last scene. Having just freed Rake and his compatriot Nik from prison after their most recent adventure, Alcott offers the pair another job.
Will they take it? The film leaves the question open, but Hemsworth seems pretty sure. “There's a charisma and a sense of humor that Idris has in the film that I would love to expand upon in a third film,” he tells us. “He brings out something very different and unique in my character that we haven't seen before. So again, it's an if, but if we were to make a third one, there's the real potential to go in a different direction again.”
In other words: Elba-as-Alcott might just have an opportunity to keep saying ‘Rake.’ As Alcott himself admits in the movie, “That’s such a fun name to say.”
Extraction 2 is streaming on Netflix right now.
