Love the songs in Heartstopper Season 3? Thank series creator Alice Oseman and executive producer Patrick Walters for their sublime taste in music. The series follows the young love between sweet British teens Charlie (Joe Locke) and Nick (Kit Connor) — and all the emotions that accompany such an important time in a young person’s life.

Oseman’s trademark illustrations in the original graphic novels help convey the inner turmoil of each character — and so do the songs on the soundtrack, which Oseman handpicks alongside Walters. Explains Walters, “Heartstopper tracks are joyful, epic, heart-soaring romance anthems. The sort of music that makes you feel like a teenager again.”

This season, one of the biggest musical moments — or at least the longest — comes during a particularly melancholic Halloween party. Nick feels adrift as his boyfriend, Charlie, spends time at an inpatient treatment program for his eating disorder and OCD.

Oseman tells Tudum that as the characters have gotten older and experienced more important milestones, they’ve incorporated a more grown-up sensibility into the soundtrack.

“We tried with the parties in Season 3 to make them feel a little bit more adult, or at least older teen, than the parties have been in previous seasons,” they say. “So I came up with a lot of options, and there was one party in particular, the Halloween party [in Episode 4], where we changed songs almost every shot. It’s a very intense montage … where there’s a different song every few seconds. I really got involved in picking some songs for that, because I really wanted to capture that slightly more grungy, darker vibe.”

Walters tells Tudum that the transition from the end of Episode 3 into the moodier Halloween party in Episode 4 was a particularly proud moment this season. “We always try and make an episode’s ending have maximum impact with the right track,” he says. “I think that’s really well achieved with Katie Gregson-MacLeod’s ‘Complex’ at the end of Episode 3. It was also amazing to get ‘Blue’ by Billie Eilish into Episode 4 — the song in combination with Kit’s performance gives me goosebumps every time.”

Below, find the complete track listing for every song that plays during Heartstopper Season 3, including standouts by Baby Queen, Wasia Project (which counts star William Gao as a member), and Rachel Chinouriri — just don’t ask Oseman to pick their favorite track. “I can’t choose,” they say. “Too much pressure!”
