You won’t be left hanging for too long after the dramatic cliffhanger that ended Avatar: The Last Airbender Season 2.
The live-action series will return for a third and final season — and it’s been shot already. The cast celebrated the end of production on Season 3 back in November with a lovely group photo. Now Avatar: The Last Airbender’s team is bending heaven and Earth (and Fire, Water, and Air) to give the show the grand finale it deserves.
Keep reading to find out what’s in store in Season 3, who’s joining the cast, and more.

Avatar Aang (Gordon Cormier) ends Season 2 in critical condition after Azula (Elizabeth Yu) strikes him with lightning while he’s in the Avatar State. This could have cataclysmic consequences for not only Aang, but the entire Avatar Cycle. Only time will tell how this will affect Aang going forward. Meanwhile, Zuko (Dallas Liu), who was on the verge of switching sides, betrays the Gaang and aligns himself once again with his sister, Azula; father, Fire Lord Ozai; and the rest of the Fire Nation.
“The stakes are extremely high,” Cormier tells Tudum about Season 2’s ending. “Aang will be faced with mental challenges — remembering who he is, accepting he could have died in the Avatar State and ended the Avatar Cycle.”

How Avatar: The Last Airbender will adapt the ending of the Nickelodeon animated series is being heavily guarded by the Fire Nation — but just know they started working toward this point even before the series was officially renewed for Seasons 2 and 3.
“The ending of Season 2 and the beginning of Season 3 were always in our heads from that first week in the [writers] room,” says executive producer Christine Boylan, who’s especially thrilled about Azula’s arc. “I’m excited about the storyline she has in Season 2; I’m obsessed with the storyline she has in Season 3.”
