What can you expect from the latest cases?

“In Volume 5, we profile a type of mystery that we’ve never tackled before — cattle mutilations,” Dunn Meurer says. “Of all the mysteries over the years, this one might be the most baffling.”

Another episode from this volume highlights the relationship between a paranormal investigator and his spirit guide, as well as an episode about a brutal double homicide that occurred in broad daylight.

“The killer, so far, has eluded authorities,” Dunn Meurer says.

Volume 5 of Unsolved Mysteries was produced in association with Cosgrove/Meurer Productions and 21 Laps Entertainment. Read on for more.

Episode 1

“Park Bench Murders”

Director: Skye Borgman
Location: Cleveland, Ohio
Summary: On June 4, 2019, a pair of kayakers stumbled upon two dead bodies in the Cleveland Metroparks’ Rocky River Reservation. The two people, Carnell Sledge and Katherine Brown, were good friends who had met up in the park for reasons that remain unknown. Investigators determined they had both been shot from behind, there were no indications of a robbery, and despite the authorities’ best efforts, they couldn’t find any witnesses — even though the murders occurred in broad daylight alongside a busy roadway.

A roofer parked nearby told police that though he had seen Brown and Sledge arrive at the park just after 5 p.m., he didn’t hear any gunshots. Without many leads, the victims’ families are exploring every possible theory as to why their loved ones became the targets of such a heinous crime.

“This double homicide is everyone’s worst nightmare,” Dunn Meurer says. “It happened in broad daylight in a very busy public park. Law enforcement has not been able to determine a motive for the murders and has no suspects. This case needs viewers’ help.” Explore the evidence dossier for “Park Bench Murders” here

Don Philips looking off into the distance.
Episode 2

“My Paranormal Partner”

Director: Robert M. Wise
Location: Seattle, Washington, and the United Kingdom
Summary: Paranormal researcher Don Philips has made a life and a career out of his ability to commune with spirits that exist beyond the bounds of our physical world, investigating hauntings and bringing peace to those whose lives have been upended by them. Over the years, however, Philips found himself working hand-in-hand with a rather unusual assistant — an entity named Becky who speaks to him and guides him, even in his personal life. Don and Becky’s working relationship, though seemingly unbelievable, proved impressive enough to convince a renowned parapsychologist and skeptic. But when it appears that Becky has been lying to Philips about who she is, the rest of her otherworldly dispatches are called into question.

“I believe viewers will find it fascinating to witness Don Philips’ relationship with his ‘spirit guide,’ Becky,” Dunn Meurer says. “It’s a ‘relationship’ story like no other.” Explore the evidence dossier for “My Paranormal Partner” here

Episode 3

“Mysterious Mutilations”

Director: Robert M. Wise
Location: Oregon
Summary: M.T. Anderson heard tales of cattle mutilation back when he was in high school. Mat Carter’s friend first heard about it in the 1970s. But in recent years, both ranchers have had firsthand experience with strange phenomenon, discovering some of their own livestock brutalized, with surgical-style incisions and tongues and/or organs missing. In each instance, there were no footprints or any indication that the cattle had been attacked by another animal. Perhaps strangest of all, there was no blood.

There have been thousands of similar cases reported across the United States and Canada; theories range from UFOs to cult activity. But no matter who — or what —  the true culprits are, countless ranchers are invested in figuring out how to stop them from affecting their herds, and their livelihood.

“This is probably the most mysterious mystery we’ve ever profiled,” says Dunn Meurer.  “There are no suspects and no definitive theories about why cattle have been murdered and mutilated in multiple states, across decades. It’s crazy to say this, but UFOs almost seem like the most likely theory.” Explore the evidence dossier for “Mysterious Mutilations” here

Episode 4

“The Roswell UFO Incident”

Director: Gabe Torres
Location: New Mexico
Summary: In 1947, a New Mexico rancher found a large quantity of unusual debris scattered across his property and alerted the authorities, who contacted Maj. Jesse A. Marcel of the United States Air Force. Marcel arrived on the scene to gather the debris, and later, a press release was issued saying that a flying disc had been recovered on site. The news quickly made its way around the world, and the city of Roswell soon became the subject of international intrigue. Though that official statement was quickly retracted, many believe that it was a government cover-up — including Marcel. Unsolved Mysteries first released an episode about Roswell, New Mexico, in the late ’80s, bringing it back into the national spotlight. But three decades later, there are still more questions about what happened on that fateful night than there are answers.

“So much new information has emerged from witnesses who, at first, were afraid to come forward to give their accounts about this UFO sighting,” says Dunn Meurer. “We hope the audience is intrigued to hear new information about this infamous case.” Explore the evidence dossier for “The Roswell UFO Incident” here
