What happens in Enola Holmes 3? Press play above for your first clue, a sneak peek laid out by Millie Bobbie Brown herself.
Premiering July 1 on Netflix, the third installment in the Enola Holmes series opens with a shadowy figure being led past jail cells. A mustachioed man enlists this mystery criminal’s “brilliant” mind to track down some “items of worth” that have long since been misplaced. Their exchange concludes with one question. “Does the name Tewkesbury mean anything to you?” the mustache man asks before the screen cuts to black.
For Enola Holmes fans, the name Tewkesbury means a great deal, of course. He’s the dashing and radical young lord, played by Louis Partridge, to whom Enola (Brown) declared her love in the franchise’s previous film. And, as the sneak peek continues, viewers see where that love has taken them.
“We find Tewkesbury on his wedding day, standing at the altar, looking at his watch, nervous, fidgety, waiting for his bride to arrive,” Partridge says of his opening scene. But where is Enola? As her familiar narration begins, we learn the young couple has traveled to Malta for their impending nuptials — but the celebration may not unfold as expected. “We’ve taken her abroad,” Brown notes. “And we find [Enola] in a wedding dress, perhaps getting married to Lord Tewkesbury — or so she thinks.”
As the clip unfolds, Enola delivers her classic “’tis I” introduction and explains that she’s having doubts about becoming a lady. The detective is stepping into a version of herself that “feels much more defined but still evolving,” Brown tells Tudum. “She’s built something for herself, which is amazing, but she’s also questioning what she wants next. I think that’s something so many people can relate to. There’s this pressure of, ‘OK, I’ve achieved this … but who am I now?’”
Brown adds, “I’ve grown up alongside her, so exploring those themes felt really personal. It’s about balancing independence with love, ambition with vulnerability, and figuring out what parts of yourself you want to hold onto versus what you’re ready to let change. That felt really honest to play.”
After all the hard work Enola put in to become worthy of the Holmes name, is she really willing to give it up?
Enola concludes that, for Tewkesbury, perhaps she can. She hastily jumps into a coach and rushes to the cathedral. In true Enola Holmes fashion, however, things don’t go as planned. Soon, a man appears on horseback behind her. Suspecting that it’s someone unsavory, the bride aims a gun in his direction before the pursuer is revealed to be none other than Dr. Watson (Himesh Patel).
Watson explains that Enola’s brother, Sherlock Holmes (Henry Cavill), has gone missing. “The mystery of Sherlock’s kidnapping draws us away from what could have been the wedding, and now it’s turned into saving her brother,” says Brown.
So, once again, Enola Holmes is on the case. But can she crack it? And how will the diversion affect her relationship with Tewkesbury? Oh, and speaking of her betrothed, what does that anonymous prisoner in the opening scene have to do with all this? Uncover the answers to these questions and more by streaming Enola Holmes 3 July 1, only on Netflix.
