Are you suddenly feeling a strong sense of déjà vu? Don’t worry, your timeline isn’t collapsing. Real-life married couple Nick Offerman and Megan Mullally are simply slipping on some new wedding rings for The Umbrella Academy Season 4, playing a very different set of spouses than you’re used to: Doctors Gene and Jean Thibedeau.

Fans of Offerman and Mullally loved giggling at these two as toxic exes in Parks and Recreation. Now they’ll be rocking sensible footwear in The Umbrella Academy as a pair of mild-mannered Midwestern community college professors… but we have a feeling the Thibedeaus’ lives will get a lot less sensible when they get caught up in some timeline-twisting chaos.

The final season of the sci-fi series is also welcoming another comedy legend into the fold: Arrested Development star David Cross, who’ll portray Sy Grossman, an upstanding but shy business owner and family man. Sy is desperate to reconnect with his estranged (and unnamed) daughter; he will stop at nothing to get her back.

Although The Umbrella Academy is based on Gerard Way’s comic books of the same name, all three of these new characters are original creations for the series. Offerman, Mullally and Cross will star alongside the Hargreeves family, whom viewers have already come to love: Elliot Page (Victor), Tom Hopper (Luther), David Castañeda (Diego), Emmy Raver-Lampman (Allison), Robert Sheehan (Klaus), Aidan Gallagher (Five), Justin H. Min (Ben), Ritu Arya (Lila) and Colm Feore (Reginald) have confirmed they will reprise their roles in The Umbrella Academy’s farewell episodes. Executive producer Steve Blackman also returns.

The Season 3 finale left the Hargreeves siblings in yet another new timeline. But unlike previous temporal reboots, the Umbrella Academy found themselves without their various powers — and missing Allison, who foiled her father’s latest scheme

“This new timeline has been dictated by [Reginald], who reprogrammed the universe at the end of the Season 3 finale. But because of Allison’s actions, he didn’t get to finish what he started,” Blackman told Tudum in August 2022, teasing Season 4. “So, the siblings losing their powers isn’t going to be the only oddity in this timeline.”

How will Gene, Jean and Sy fit into this mysterious new world? Keep checking back with Tudum for all your Umbrella Academy news — and tune in to Season 4 when it smashes back onto screens.
