Better duck and cover: After years on the sidelines, Lonnie “The Hawk” Hawkins is flying back into action.
The three-time major winner is embarking on an East Coast bus tour to celebrate his latest run at golf’s Grand Slam. It all tees off with a no-holds-barred press conference at the World Golf Hall of Fame in Pinehurst, North Carolina, on Thursday.
As portrayed by Will Ferrell in his first role in a television series, Lonnie was 2004’s No. 1 golfer before hitting the back nine of his career; now he’s making one last attempt at a crowning achievement. His friends and family — including his estranged wife, Stacy (Molly Shannon), and hotshot son Lance (Jimmy Tatro) — have their doubts. But skeptics can keep their heads stuck in the sand (trap), because Lonnie Hawkins never saw a challenge he couldn’t swing his way out of.
You can read on to learn more about the bus tour, and stay tuned as Lonnie’s journey to the finals is documented in the new series The Hawk, premiering on Netflix on July 16.
