There’s no shortage of memorable moments in ONE PIECE: Into the Grand Line, the second season of Netflix’s live-action adaptation of Eiichiro Oda’s beloved manga series, now streaming on Netflix.
From the Straw Hats’ extraordinary trek up the staggering Reverse Mountain to their heroic battle against the gluttonous king Wapol (Rob Colletti) on Drum Island, the crew’s Season 2 exploits are their grandest yet in their quest for the fabled One Piece treasure.
So much so that Oda is sharing his three favorite moments of the live-action ONE PIECE’s sophomore run with star Iñaki Godoy, who plays Luffy, as part of the ONE PIECE: Into the Grand Line Official Podcast.

“In terms of something that changed from the manga, I love the scene where you sing to Laboon. That’s a memorable one, for sure,” Oda tells Godoy, referencing Luffy’s attempt to soothe the massive whale Laboon in Episode 2. During the episode, titled “Good Whale Hunting,” Luffy performs a lively rendition of the pirate song “Binks’ Brew” to free his crew, which had been swallowed by Laboon. The Straw Hats are eventually freed.
Oda also lists the emotional Episode 8 moment when Chopper watches pink cherry blossoms rain down on Drum Island among his favorites, noting that it “turned out well.”
Plus, the ONE PIECE creator lauds Charithra Chandran’s performance as Miss Wednesday, the deadly, peacock slasher-wielding Baroque Works agent the Straw Hats meet inside Laboon’s stomach. Chandran “gives a great performance,” Oda says, adding, “That is worth highlighting.”
When it comes to Godoy’s top three, the actor favors “Luffy eating pies” at Whisky Peak in Episode 3, Luffy stuffing chopsticks in his nose in Episode 8, and Luffy’s moving speech about “what it means to have a Jolly Roger” and hoisting the pirate flag during his fight with Wapol.
“The skull and crossbones isn’t flown lightly. It’s an unbreakable symbol,” Luffy declares in Episode 8. “A symbol of conviction. This flag isn’t something to be mocked or shot at.”
