The stars of Luther: The Fallen Sun hit the red carpet outside of New York City’s Paris Theater last night to celebrate the premiere of their feature-film continuation of the hit BBC detective series. And the main event, of course, was DCI John Luther himself, Idris Elba. Elba seems thrilled to don his character’s iconic tweed coat once again to take on a new case — although for the splashy event he opted instead for a lime-green blazer, red trousers and patent leather green loafers.

“It's great to come back and play this character,” Elba tellsTudum. “It's larger than the usual scale from the TV show, but that's a great adjustment. It's a bit like letting out more energy than you're allowed to on a smaller screen.”
Of course, it wouldn’t be a new Luther without a big new baddie. As psychotic millionaire David Robey, Andy Serkis serves up a deliciously twisted adversary for Luther and his replacement on the force, played by Cynthia Erivo. Says Serkis of his villainous on-screen alter ego: “He tends to see Luther as someone in a position of power in the police force, yet [also] able to act individually, as a vigilante almost. He wants to bring him down.”

Also in attendance were co-stars Dermot Crowley and Thomas Coombes as well as Fallen Sun director Jamie Payne and Luther creator Neil Cross. Quite the murderers’ row…um, so to speak.
Luther: The Fallen Sun starts streaming on Netflix on March 10.
