The last time fans saw Forever’s young lovers — Keisha Clark (Lovie Simone) and Justin Edwards (Michael Cooper Jr.) — they were at a fork in the (neon-lit) road. Keisha was off to Howard University to pursue her long-held dreams, while Justin began realizing new ones in LA’s music industry. As the on-again, off-again couple is pulled in opposite directions, all Justin and Keisha could do was share one final kiss on the forehead … until now.

Season 2 of Forever is in production, and we are home — back in Los Angeles, back inside a love story that keeps revealing itself. This time, through friendship,” creator, showrunner, and executive producer Mara Brock Akil tells Tudum.

The new episodes, led by Simone and Cooper Jr., will catch up with Keisha and Justin a few years after the Season 1 finale. The protagonists will be settling into their individual lives while tackling big questions about what comes next. An unexpected reconnection will change everything.

“Because when you’re standing at the edge of adulthood, staring into the abyss, it’s your real ones you want to run back to,” Brock Akil says. “Every choice feels final, even though it’s your first time being truly grown. We are thrilled to be back, diving deeper into love’s most complicated question — is forever truly forever?”

As Keisha and Justin try to figure out life’s — and love’s — biggest mysteries, they won’t be alone. Malaika Guttoh, Avery Wills Jr., and Tre McBride have also joined Forever. Keep reading to learn about new characters, Season 2’s plot, and which previous stars you can expect to see again.

What is Forever Season 2 about?

The upcoming episodes of the YA romance will ask: Can exes really be friends? Four years later, Justin and Keisha are doing pretty well post-pandemic — new relationships, real jobs, and adulting their big dreams — that is, until they run into each other during the summer of 2023.
