You can never escape where you came from. And in the latest trailer for Florida Man, Edgar Ramírez is learning the hard way that it’s especially true if you’re from the Sunshine State.
Ramírez plays Mike Valentine, whose gambling addiction has cost him his marriage to Iris (Lex Scott Davis) and his career as a cop. He may be trying to go straight, but he’s still indebted to mobster Moss (Emory Cohen) — and secretly hooking up with his girlfriend, Delly (Abbey Lee). He’s a man treading a very fine line, and “that’s the most dangerous place anybody can be,” series creator and showrunner Donald Todd previously told Tudum.

Mike’s tenuous hold over his life in Pennsylvania goes up in smoke when Delly skips town under Moss’ nose to his home state of Florida. And it’s Mike’s mission to find her in order to pay off his debts once and for all — and come to grips with the “Florida man” he really and truly is, no matter how long he’s been away.

Todd explained that a “Florida man” is “someone who’s proudly independent and doesn’t live by your code, which means he doesn’t live by any code.” And as we learn in the trailer, the apple (or orange?) doesn’t fall too far from the tree in the Valentine family. On the hunt for Delly and a stolen fortune, Mike reconnects with his estranged father, Sonny Valentine (Anthony LaPaglia), who is none too pleased about his sketchy circumstances. “You don’t bring your trouble into my neighborhood, son.”
Find out what’s going on under the sun (and under the gun) when Florida Man premieres April 13.
