School is back in session at Alfea College when Season 2 of Fate: The Winx Saga returns on Sept. 16. Before we reunite with Bloom (Abigail Cowen) and her fairy friends, let’s brush up on where things left off in the Season 1 finale.

Rosalind is released.

During her time at Alfea College, Bloom learns that she’s a changeling — a fairy kidnapped from her birthplace of Aster Dale and raised by human parents in California. The only person who can give her more information about her past is Rosalind (Lesley Sharp), the former headmistress of Alfea.

Bloom uncovers secrets at the stone circle.

Unfortunately, Rosalind has been locked away behind a magical barrier for years — but Bloom releases her against headmistress Farah Dowling’s (Eve Best) wishes. By doing so, Bloom also breaks the magical barrier protecting Alfea from danger.

Bloom gets her wings.

Alfea is in jeopardy when the campus is surrounded by scorched monsters called the Burned Ones. In addition to being a changeling, Bloom is more powerful than her peers because she possesses the Dragon Flame, the source of magic that created the Burned Ones. While trying to  rescue her school in the season finale, Bloom finally gets her wings and uses her Dragon Flame powers to undo the magic that disfigured the Burned Ones.

After receiving her wings, Bloom unleashes the Dragon Flame onto the Burned Ones.

The secrets of Aster Dale are revealed.

Rosalind tells Bloom she destroyed Aster Dale in an attempt to wipe out the Burned Ones. Aiding her in the attack at the time were Farah; Silva (Rob James-Collier); Sky’s dad, Andreas (Ken Duken); and Terra’s dad. After burning the city to the ground, everyone revolted against Rosalind because she took the plan too far. What wasn’t known was that the headmistress saved two babies before setting the fire: Bloom and her classmate, Beatrix (Sadie Soverall).

That’s not all. The residents of Aster Dale weren’t innocent. They were Blood Witches — humans who were after Bloom’s powers. They had already kidnapped Bloom as a baby to steal her magic.

Andreas comes back from the dead (sort of).

Sky (Danny Griffin), Bloom’s love interest, grew up thinking that his father, Andreas, had perished in battle. He was raised by Silva, Andreas’ best friend. Their relationship takes a turn in the finale when Sky learns that it was actually Silva who killed his father. During the burning of Aster Dale, Silva had a change of heart and pleaded for his friend to turn on Dowling. Andreas refused, and after getting into a struggle, Silva killed him as an act of self-defense...

… or so he thought. Out of the blue, Andreas makes a surprise appearance. He was never dead; he’s just been hiding all this time while recovering from his injuries. As if that isn’t shocking enough, it’s revealed that Andreas was the one who raised Beatrix.

Rosalind stages a coup and commits murder.

All of this was Rosalind’s elaborate plan to be reinstated as Alfea’s headmistress. She’s the one who lets the Burned Ones in, has Andreas raise Beatrix in hiding until the timing was right and plants Beatrix at the school to help execute her scheme.

As Alfea’s fencing instructor, Silva is always ready for battle.

Silva is then arrested by the Solarian Army for attempted murder of Andreas all those years ago, and when Dowling refuses to step down as headmistress, Rosalind kills her by snapping her neck and hiding her body. No body, no crime, right?

Now that we’re all caught up, pack up your bags and spell books because the return to Alfea is happening soon. Fate: The Winx Saga Season 2 premieres on Sept. 16 with new faces and more threats.
