‘Big Mouth’ Is Closing Up with an Eighth and Final Season

Say goodbye to the hormone monsters.

There’s nothing scarier to a growing tween than change. So we’re sure the impressionable young main characters of the Emmy-nominated Big Mouth would be devastated by the news that the show’s upcoming eighth season will be its last. Sooner or later, we all have to grow up. “If you would have told adolescent Nick Kroll and Andrew Goldberg that middle school would take eight years to finish, they would have been like, ‘Yeah, that sounds about right. This seems like it will never end,’ ” series star and executive producer Kroll says.

But don’t worry — nobody’s finishing early here. Before we say goodbye to Nick, Andrew, Jessi, Jay, Missy and of course their loyal hormone monsters, there are two full seasons of Big Mouth to enjoy, bringing the show’s total to eight and making it the longest scripted series in Netflix history (excluding Kids & Family programming). And that’s not even mentioning spin-off Human Resources, which will wrap up in its upcoming Season 2 before tying into the final seasons of Big Mouth.

‘Big Mouth’ characters.

Over the course of their record-breaking run, Big Mouth and Human Resources have racked up quite a few enormous statistics. More than 50 million households have spent more than 1 billion hours watching the two shows. In all, that’s a grand total of 689 masturbation jokes. Sound like a small number? There’s plenty more on the way — and co-creators Kroll, Goldberg, Mark Levin and Jennifer Flackett will continue to create new animated series for Netflix through their acclaimed animation production company Brutus Pink.

Human Resources Season 2 hits Netflix in the coming months, while Big Mouth Seasons 7 and 8 will stream starting in 2023 and 2024, respectively. You know what they say. Don’t cry because it’s over, smile because it hormoned.
