If Madea is coming out of retirement, then it has to be good. This time she’s back for a family affair in Tyler Perry’s A Madea Homecoming. Can someone say “hallelujur”?

In this latest installment, the matriarch (Perry) welcomes her family, who have all come to town to celebrate Madea’s great-grandson’s college graduation. After 12 movies and 17 years, we already know this celebration will come with a side (or main course) of chaos. What seems like a joyous occasion is threatened when hidden family secrets are revealed.

In 2019, Perry bid farewell to the character after A Madea Family Funeral. “I don’t want to be her age playing her, so it was time to shut it down and move on,” the filmmaker and actor told The Hollywood Reporter that year. But just this month, Perry, who recently appeared in the end-of-the-word satire Don’t Look Up, told Entertainment Weekly, “I was looking at the state of the world and how polarized it is… nobody's laughing. What tool do I have in my arsenal that can bring that kind of laughter?” It looks like he had Madea on speed dial.

Perry also revealed to EW that there will be an LGBTQ storyline in the newest film — which he hopes will send a message of inclusion to viewers. “Even if you don't understand, be open... I just think that if everything gets accepted in love, then you get a chance to see the person for who they are rather than what you think they are.”

Reuniting for this family celebration will be the franchise’s all-star cast, including Tamela J. Mann (Cora), David Mann (Mr. Brown), Cassi Davis (Aunt Bam), Brandon Black (Tim) and Isha Blaaker (Davi). Pull up some seats and set the table because Tyler Perry’s A Madea Homecoming streams Feb. 25.
