Take a quick moment to think back to when you were 13... did you just shudder?

From the looming awkwardness of puberty to navigating the social hierarchies of middle school, becoming a teenager is a strange feeling — especially for 12-year-old Evan Goldman (Eli Golden). In the trailer for13: The Musical, based on the Broadway show of the same name, the preteen is faced with some pretty pressing matters. While planning the party of the century (aka his Bar Mitzvah), Evan’s parents split up, and he must now move from New York City to Indiana. After trading a view of the Met for cows grazing on grass, Evan is more determined than ever to befriend the cool kids at his new school so that they’ll attend his Bar Mitzvah.

Starring alongside Golden is Debra Messing, Josh Peck, Peter Hermann, Rhea Perlman, Gabriella Uhl, JD McCrary, Frankie McNellis, Lindsey Blackwell, Jonathan Lengel, Ramon Reed, Nolen Dubuc, Luke Islam, Shechinah Mpumlwana, Kayleigh Cerezo, Willow Moss, Liam Wignall and Khiyla Aynne.

Premiering in 2008,13 featured Broadway’s first and only all-teenage cast and band — including Ariana Grande and Liz Gillies. With a new class setting the stage, it’s time to experience another kid-life crisis on Aug. 12. In the meantime, check out the first track, “13,” and pre-save the full album
