Charlie Barnett has quite an impressive list of Netflix series on his resume: In addition to Russian Doll, in which he plays time-traveling New Yorker Alan, he can also be seen as a new agey influencer in Season 2 of You, a figure from guard Piscatella’s past on Orange Is the New Black, and as a San Franciscan twentysomething in the LGBTQ story Tales of the City. Below, the actor takes us through what’s in his Netflix queue.

The Parkers

Barnett just finished watching all of seminal ’90s sitcom Moesha, so he’s moved on to the next logical series: its spin-off, The Parkers. “That’s what I’ve been watching at the moment: Cycling back through The Parkers,” he says. “Mo’Nique!”

Worst Roommate Ever

This true-crime anthology features real-life stories of the most horrific roommate experiences ever. Says Barnett, “terrified the shit out of me.” (Same.)

The Good Place

Sometimes you need to follow a terrifying documentary with a feel-good sitcom about being a good person. This staple is “always a solid choice,” he says.

Inventing Anna

Barnett has been spending time with his family at home in Florida, and recently watched the ripped-from-the-headlines scammer story, starring Ozark’s Julia Garner as the titular character, with his mother. “Julia Garner, man. That performance,” he gushes. “Y’all don’t know how hard that job was to do. She turned that shit out. That is a crazy character to play, let alone the accent. Bow down. I feel like she carried the shit out of it. She was brilliant.”

Love on the Spectrum

Of all the Netflix dating shows, this one, which follows seven young adults on the autism spectrum as they navigate the world of love and relationships, is Barnett’s favorite. “I bawl. My dad has Asperger’s, so it’s a close relation,” he says. “But it’s my go-to.”

Too Hot to Handle cast

Too Hot to Handle

“I feel really shameful about watching this,” Barnett confesses of the steamy dating competition. “I’m on Season 2, and I watched the first season a while ago. But that shit is just... Episode 4, I was like, ‘I can’t watch this back-to-back. I’ve got to give myself a two-night break between.’”

Animal

Need a brain break? Follow Barnett’s lead and check out this immersive nature documentary featuring narration by Anthony Mackie and voice cameos from Bryan Cranston, Rebel Wilson, Rashida Jones and Pedro Pascal. “I watched Animal in between [episodes of Too Hot to Handle],” Barnett says. “It’s great.”

Bad Vegan

Stars: They’re just like us! They, too, become consumed by each pop culture–dominating docuseries upon its release. Like Bad Vegan, the story of a New York restaurateur arrested for fraud. “I fully committed. Anytime a new one drops on Netflix, I’m on it.”
