You’ve seen the raw liver. You’ve heard the grunts. You might’ve even stumbled across a video of a shirtless sprint through the forest. Brian Johnson, better known as the Liver King, built an online fitness empire by devouring raw meat and promoting an all-natural “ancestral lifestyle,” with the muscles to back it up — and UNTOLD: The Liver King tells a story unlike any other.

“When the Liver King burst onto my feed I, like so many, was transfixed,” director Joe Pearlman tells Netflix. “I wanted to find out more; who he really was and what was really going on. The truth was even crazier than I could have possibly imagined.”

Who is The Liver King?

With his signature bushy beard, hardcore workouts, and a diet that raised more than a few eyebrows (hello, testicles), Brian Johnson rose to internet stardom preaching the virtues of “ancestral living” — a lifestyle built on core tenets that include eating whole foods, getting outside, and rejecting modern comforts. Millions of people followed — but eventually, accusations of hypocrisy led to a public reckoning.

UNTOLD: The Liver King is less concerned with what it takes to build a physique than with what it takes to build a brand. What happens when a person becomes a persona? How does a family live inside a myth? And what’s the cost of becoming your own hero? Executive produced by Gabe Turner, Sheldon Lazarus, James Goldston, Richard Thompson, Ben Silverman, Howard Owens, Chapman Way, and Maclain Way, and produced by Bitachon 365 and Candle True Stories, UNTOLD: The Liver King features interviews with the man himself, his family, and his business partners. The documentary unravels the wild story of the Liver King’s rapid rise to internet fame, and the controversy that came after.

Where is Liver King Brian Johnson now?

Johnson still posts his ancestral lifestyle content online — even in the midst of scandal, he still has 2.3 million followers on Instagram and 6.1 million followers on TikTok.

“We live in a time when someone can reach hundreds of millions of people without going through any kind of traditional gatekeeping,” says Pearlman. “No background checks: just a phone and a guy. When shock and outrage get views, what are you willing, or even able, to keep doing to stay at the top of the algorithm?”
