THE ONE PIECE doesn’t arrive until February 2027, but a new sneak peek will give you something to treasure before those episodes drop anchor on Netflix.

Feast your eyes on the above video teaser, which offers a glimpse at characters you may recognize, including Luffy’s mentor, Shanks; his friend and future Marine captain, Koby; and his would-be Straw Hat crewmates, Nami, Zoro, Usopp, and Sanji.

Plus, we get our first look at Luffy’s memorable battles with menacing foes like the pirate Blackbeard and Buggy the Clown, captain of the Buggy Pirates.

A new adaptation of Eiichiro Oda’s bestselling manga, THE ONE PIECE uses cutting-edge technology to provide a fresh take on Luffy’s grand adventures. When determining their vision for the project, director Masashi Koizuka (Attack on Titan, Moonrise) and the rest of the animation team kept asking themselves, “What is Oda-sensei thinking as he draws each character?"

“As we put together all our rough sketches, we tried to adapt his thought process to our own take on the ONE PIECE characters,” Koizuka explains. “We reimagined the overall visuals, color scheme, and even the set designs.”

Season 1 will consist of seven episodes and cover the first 50 chapters of the introductory East Blue Saga. The arc’s name comes from the expansive East Blue ocean, which is also the birthplace of the infamous pirate Gold Roger, who inspires Luffy to become a pirate himself and find the fabled One Piece treasure.

“As we first sat down with the project, we knew that the story was emotional and inspiring,” says Koizuka. “But we wanted to go into it as a naval action-adventure story. It's a story of a boy wanting to be King of the Pirates, so we figured that was the most appropriate place to start.”

That means the ocean waters in the new series must be “awe-inspiring,” the director notes. “The oceans as Luffy sees them are literally uncharted waters full of surprises and excitement. We wanted to bring that awe and scale to life, and we focused on that as we created our design aesthetic. We spent quite a lot of time putting it together, as we brainstormed ideas and collaborated with our 3D team.”

THE ONE PIECE is produced by the renowned WIT Studio (Spy x Family, Seasons 1–3 of Attack on Titan) in collaboration with Shueisha, Fuji Television Network, and Toei Animation.

In addition to Koizuka, the creative team includes assistant director Hideaki Abe (key animator for My Hero Academia: Two Heroes), art director Tomonori Kuroda (A Certain Scientific Railgun), and character design and chief animation directors Kyoji Asano (Spy x Family, Attack on Titan) and Takatoshi Honda (In/Spectre). Taku Kishimoto (Sakamoto Days, co-creator of BUCCHIGIRI?!) handled series composition.
