In astrological circles, the phrase “Saturn return” refers to the time in a person’s life when that planet completes its transit and once again occupies the same position in the sky as it did when a person was born. In director Greg Kwedar’s forthcoming Saturn Return, which will debut in 2026, actors Charles Melton, Rachel Brosnahan, and Will Poulter also go through their own periods of transition — the film spans a decade in the lives of its characters, tracing their journeys into adulthood.

Saturn Return is Kwedar’s directorial follow-up to 2023’s Sing Sing. The film was written by Gaelyn Golde, with revisions by Kwedar and Clint Bentley. Bentley is the director of Netflix’s Train Dreams, which was written by Bentley and Kwedar.

What is Saturn Return about?

The film is a Chicago-set romance exploring the themes of love, loss, and life’s unexpected turns in the 10 years between the aspirational young love of college and the complicated realities of adulthood.

Who stars in Saturn Return?

The film will feature:

“This project has attracted the most incredible cast and crew, who feel almost cosmically drawn to be part of this. Led by Rachel Brosnahan, Charles Melton, and Will Poulter, these actors are so bonded and delightful to be around,” Kwedar tells Tudum. “Supported by a dream team of actors in Jean Yoon, David Morse, and Kim Dickens, this is an ensemble that offers up a rich tapestry of what it means to be part of a family.”

“And,” he adds, “all of this is brought to life by our lead artisans at the very top of their field working in community with a phenomenal Chicago crew.”

Who is making Saturn Return?

The film will be directed by Kwedar with Plan B and Emily Wolfe producing. The script is written by Gaelyn Golde with revisions by Kwedar and Bentley, the duo’s second project with Netflix after Train Dreams.
