The titular deadly assassin who will stop at nothing to keep her loved ones from harm is back in action in Season 5 of Rosario Tijeras. Season 4’s shocking cliffhanger featured Rosario (Bárbara de Regil) rescuing her injured daughter, Ruby (Samantha Acuña), only for Ruby to be kidnapped at the last second by a cartel boss who lost a loved one to Rosario’s bullets. But despite being left for dead in the jungle, Rosario’s not down for the count, and Season 5 picks up immediately after last year’s finale. The action-packed Mexican drama was adapted for television by Control Z co-creators Adriana Pelusi and Carlos Quintanilla.

What happens in Rosario Tijeras Season 5?

At long last, Rosario and her daughter, Ruby, have been reunited. Except Ruby wants absolutely nothing to do with her mother. “I’ve chosen my own path,” Ruby tells Rosario in a heated standoff. Not long after, ruthless cartel leader Arteaga (Mendoza) attempts to kidnap Ruby. Amid the gunfire, Rosario’s long-lost love, El Ángel (Martínez), appears and helps to thwart the kidnapping. But despite Rosario and El Ángel’s desperate attempts to rescue Ruby, they fail. A van explodes with Ruby inside, leaving Rosario and El Ángel injured. El Ángel, whom Rosario believed to be dead after he shot himself years ago, tells his former lover that he not only miraculously survived, but spent the past decade in prison. 

One year later, wanted criminals Rosario and El Ángel are hiding from authorities in Tijuana. Rosario — tormented by the loss of her daughter, with El Ángel barely able to comfort her — ends up in a violent confrontation with Sebastián (Borda), the son of powerful Tijuana narco boss Guillermo “El Sagrado” Uriel. Rosario wards Sebastián off, humiliating him in the process, and he becomes determined to get revenge. As Rosario makes new enemies with an explosive bang, footage of her goes viral, leading her former lover and therapist, Juan Antonio (Angelini), to realize she’s alive. But Juan Antonio refuses to let this new information derail his recovery from illness or his wedding to Lucía (Hernández), a sweet woman who’s the exact opposite of Rosario. Will Rosario’s grief put her past and present on a collision course? Or will she manage to make a new life for herself?
