    Mindy Kaling Receives a Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame 

    The prolific writer and creator was honored as her latest series, Running Point, hits the court.

On Tuesday morning, Mindy Kaling attended the unveiling ceremony for her very own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, honoring her achievements as a writer, creator, actor, and producer in television and film. “This is one of the times [when] I’m just going to force myself to be in the moment,” Kaling said as she accepted the tribute. 

Kaling was joined at the unveiling by her Office co-star and close friend B. J. Novak, who paid tribute with a heartfelt speech outlining her achievements and expressing his admiration. “This is not the Walk of Hard Work,” Novak said. “Mindy is the child of immigrants. She would have been on that since first grade. This is also not the Walk of Talent. She’d have been on that since birth.”

Kaling has undoubtedly had a massive impact on the industry with projects that span genres and media. She created comedies like Never Have I Ever and The Mindy Project, as well as the Oscar–nominated live-action short film Anuja, which follows a 9-year-old girl working at a garment factory in India.

Kaling takes on the world of basketball in her latest series, Running Point, which she created and produces. The comedy stars Kate Hudson as Isla Gordon, a Los Angeles executive unexpectedly appointed head of the family business — a professional basketball team. 

“You don’t have to be a sports fan to love Running Point. It’s a big, warm embrace, which is true to Mindy’s vision, and I hope it resonates with a wide audience,” Hudson told Tudum.

“I really love writing shows about ambitious women,” Kaling said, “whether they’re a 15-year-old girl in the Valley [in Never Have I Ever] or the president of a basketball team. We wanted to ensure that audiences could see themselves in the characters’ struggles and triumphs.”
