Julia Garner is used to working with varied material, and her next project may be playing the Material Girl herself! According to reports, Garner has been offered the starring role in an upcoming Madonna biopic. Madonna will serve as a director, with Garner — and other hopefuls — reportedly going through a grueling “boot-camp” process of singing and dancing to land the role.

The 28-year-old has been showcasing her acting talents for over a decade. Here are five Julia Garner shows to watch.

Ozark

Garner received two consecutive Emmy Awards for her portrayal of Ruth Langmore, the foul-mouthed business partner to the money-laundering Byrdes (Jason Bateman and Laura Linney).

In the final season, which debuted in January, Langmore has stopped working for the Byrdes and branched out on her own, which presents new opportunities and dangers.

A Farewell to Ozark

When you’re done streaming Ozark, check out this post-finale feature in which Garner discusses her character’s fate.

“[Ruth] really wanted to get out of that place she was in,” the actor reflects. “And she felt stuck and she felt like she was going to be here for the rest of her life.”

Showrunner Chris Mundy says wrapping up Ruth’s storyline is “by far, the hardest thing in the entire course of the show.”

Inventing Anna

Garner trades the sticks for glitzy Manhattan in Inventing Anna, in which she plays scheming socialite Anna Delvey.

To become Delvey, Garner underwent a complete transformation, dying her blond tresses red, donning thick-framed Celine glasses and adopting Delvey’s idiosyncratic accent.

“If I didn’t have the accent down, I wouldn’t have a lot of the character down,” Garner reveals.

Dirty John

In another true-life adaptation, Garner plays Terra Newell, the daughter of Debra Newell (Connie Britton), a woman who gets conned by the titular John Meehan (Eric Bana).

The eight-episode series shows how John’s web of lies wreaks havoc on the Newells and an already fraught mother-daughter relationship. Garner was nominated for a 2019 Critics’ Choice Award for best supporting actress in a movie/limited series for her performance.

Maniac

Garner stars opposite Emma Stone, Jonah Hill and Justin Theroux in the 10-episode series, directed by Cary Fukunaga (No Time to Die).

In the dark comedy-drama, Garner plays Stone’s younger sister, Ellie, who’s killed in a car accident. The plot revolves around Stone’s character, Annie, reliving the accident via a mind-altering pill.
