A flare descends in a starless night sky, exposing a desolate battlefield where a fallen soldier lies ensnared in barbed wire. So begins the trailer for All Quiet on the Western Front, a harrowing tale of World War I as seen through the eyes of German soldiers. This grim war drama centers on a young soldier, Paul Bäumer, whose romantic notions of fighting for Germany are violently dispelled by his horrific experiences on the front lines.
Directed by Emmy nominee Edward Berger (Patrick Melrose, Your Honor), All Quiet on the Western Front was an official selection at the 2022 Toronto International Film Festival.

In 1917, the third year of World War I, 17-year-old Paul Bäumer (Kammerer) joins the German army along with his friends and against his parents’ wishes. Initially swept up by patriotism and camaraderie, he’s enthusiastic about going to war. But as soon as Paul is deployed to the front lines in northern France, he’s confronted with the brutal reality of trench warfare. While Paul forms strong bonds with his comrades, the onslaught of death and violence threatens to overwhelm them all.
This film takes place in parts of Germany and France.
The film is adapted from the classic novel of the same name, written by Erich Maria Remarque and published in 1929.
